Historic downtown
Camarillo's historic downtown centers around the community's founding heritage, with Camarillo Old Town offering shops, dining, and reminders of the city's roots as a ranching community.

Camarillo was founded by brothers Juan Camarillo Jr. and Adolfo Camarillo on their Rancho Calleguas holdings in the late 1800s. The original town site began to take shape around 1910, centered on St. Mary Magdalen Church, which Adolfo Camarillo built as a family chapel and community gathering place. The city was officially incorporated on October 22, 1964, establishing the municipal government that guides Camarillo today.
The completion of the Ventura Freeway in the mid-1950s transformed Camarillo from a quiet agricultural community into a growing suburban destination, reducing travel time to Los Angeles from hours to about one hour. This transformation brought new residents seeking a smog-free environment and small-town character, while the historic core preserved the memory of the ranching families whose land grants created the community. Today, Camarillo Old Town provides a charming setting with unique shops, dining, and seasonal events that celebrate this heritage.
The neighborhoods that grew from Camarillo's historic foundation are now home to families of all stages—young professionals, established households, and retirees. Each generation that settles in Camarillo's historic-rooted community carries the same responsibility of protecting what matters most to them. Life insurance allows each household to ensure that their legacy and their family's stability endure, just as Camarillo's historic families shaped their community for the future.
