Health classes explained

Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard: definitions and how applicants shift between categories.

Term pricing follows rate class tiers. Company names shift a bit, but the steps stay the same: Preferred Plus (Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, then table ratings above standard. Tobacco customers occupy a separate tier at elevated rates.

What underwriters look at

Height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, family heart/cancer history before 60, driving record, medications, job, hobbies and tobacco use. Top-tier requires nearly spotless results; Preferred forgives a little; Standard Plus and Standard accept managed conditions like treated high blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

When rating your health, be truthful: Excellent → Preferred Plus, Very good → Preferred, Good → Standard Plus, Average → Standard. Your quote matches that tier; the carrier finalizes it during underwriting. Uncertain? Get quotes at two levels and contrast them, then let the app sort it out. An overstated health class won't cut your final cost—it just skews the estimate.

Susman Insurance Agency helps match you with carriers whose underwriting favors your situation, often more important than initial quote rates.
